The Mysterious Evening

2025, written by Yatharth Jain

An intriguing and thrilling quest for students was organised by the local members of the Erasmus Student Network, Göteborg on the 2nd of November 2025 set in the Gathenhielmska Hus. The theme of the quest centred around an attempted murder of the protagonist of the play, Stella and her connection with the potential suspects. All the suspects were situated at different locations in the room to make the atmosphere in the room realistic and suspenseful. The students came in as detectives and were split into groups for interrogating the suspects and investigating the case. The students were required to note their findings after each interrogation and fill in their responses in the answer sheets provided to them. The quest was run twice for a duration of two hours each with two different batches of detectives.

The show opened with the protagonist giving a brief overview of the situation. Throughout the quest, she helped our young investigators, collect clues and proceed with their investigation. The squad of detectives went to the respective suspects for cross-examination and seeking clues relevant to the case. The mystery brought out the students’ hidden spying talent which made them immerse in the story. At times, the members felt uneasy having too many intense questions raised at once. The volunteers made sure that the suspects were not put under a lot of pressure and prevented the officers from swarming around the suspects. Each squad was given a stipulated time of ten minutes for their examination. The intense atmosphere and our characters’ mood in the rooms increased the suspense as well as the suspicion in our detectives’ minds. They carried out each interrogation with utmost rigour, and carefully listened to each one of the suspects’ cryptic stances. Some suspects maintained perfect eye contact with the officers, while some of them refrained from doing so and were sweating. The calm faces seemed like the deep still waters. Some of our inspectors found one of the suspects’ responses too clean yet very fishy. Not everything that glitters is gold. The squads completed their investigations and submitted their findings to our volunteers.

At the end all the detectives and volunteers assembled for the moment of revelation of the culprit. All stood with supreme curiosity and excitement. It was a really dumbfounding moment for some students while an intuitively successful investigation for the others. The event pumped up the students with enthusiasm and turned out to be a great success.
